So today I got an urge to be crafty. I decided that I wanted to have miniature pumpkins lining my window sills. Now one would think you could just set the pumpkins there and walk away.... well not me. I like to make things a little more difficult. I have made these pumpkin window sills weather proof, wind proof, bug proof and hopefully theft proof. Here's how I did it if you would like to try... and forgive the dreary basement background...
Step 1 - Get a bag of mini pumpkins. Home Depot had this bag for only $6 and I love that there were white and orange varieties. You'll need 7-8 per window.
Step 2 - Find a piece of wood. This was a challenge but I managed to find an old piece of molding that I cut down to size and then ended up gluing it to a thick piece of leftover Trek Decking. A standard 2x4 should be fine. Space out your pumpkins and mark where you will need to insert the nail. Put your board in a vice and hammer in the nails so there is a good inch or more sticking through the other side.
Step 3 - You now have what looks like a crazy torture device, but no worries... only thing being tortured here is pumpkins.
Step 4 - Arrange your pumpkins on the board. They went on like butter!
Step 5 - I sprayed mine with polyurethane in an effort to preserve them a little longer and keep away the rodents. Voila! You're done!
